İnternet ve İnternetle Öğrenme

Internet and online learning

Internet: We all know and notice in our daily lives that the need for the circulation of information and to benefit more from this information increases with globalization. In parallel with this rising requirement, we see that the technologies of accessing information are developing day by day. One of these technologies is the internet. The Internet is the world's largest communication network, formed by the interconnection of computers. It is also the world's largest information bank. Thanks to the Internet, people can communicate with each other very quickly, hold mutual meetings and meetings, share their resources with other people, and access the information they want quickly. Moreover, the individual can have the freedom to use the time and environment they want while doing these. A compatible internet software, computer, modem and service provider are necessary items for this.

With its access to information and communication services, the Internet has become used in many areas such as education, health, defense, industry and public sector.

As a result of developments in science and technology, the competencies and qualifications sought in individuals who are the building blocks of society are also changing. Nowadays, individuals who can access information as soon as possible, extract, present, interpret and most importantly produce information are targeted. The change in the qualifications expected of individuals in the modern world naturally affects their understanding of education and increases the importance of technology in teaching-learning processes.

What is Learning Online?  Internet teaching, It can be defined as an individualized teaching process that enriches the teaching environments by offering rich communication options and easy access to information, and that is based on the learner's structuring of knowledge. The concept of "teaching with the internet", one of the processes that has become widespread in the internet environment, has left its place to the concept of "internet based teaching". The rapid increase in the number of students and the amount of information in schools, the inadequacy of teachers, the gaining importance of individual differences are the most important reasons for the use of educational technologies, especially computers, in teaching-learning processes. Internet-based teaching is considered as the process of developing desired behaviors in which the learner and the teacher are in different situations in terms of time and space, and the internet-based environments are used in its infrastructure. Internet-based learning makes it possible for the instructors to give appropriate training by considering individual differences. In addition, it creates a more suitable environment for both students by providing this education “anywhere, anytime”. Aim to change behavior by enriching understanding and learning Internet-based teaching provides information in three ways:

• In real time

• In unreal time

• Both together In addition.

It uses various technological methods in transferring information. Hardware, software and the speed of communication lines are of great importance in terms of access to information. For this reason, both technological equipment and the knowledge and skills of teachers and students who will use this equipment are important.

What are the specialties of Internet-based learning?

The most important feature of internet-based teaching, which adopts the teaching-learning process organized with an internet-connected computer, is that it offers different learning activities according to the individual characteristics of the students.

Another feature is that it provides access to information without time and environment limitation. Internet-based teaching envisages flexible and rich programs that change according to the learning needs instead of any computer with internet connection instead of the classroom, asynchronous teaching-learning processes depending on the student's request instead of non-flexible teaching programs, content that does not change easily.

The student is not passive but active participant in the process.

The teacher is the one who guides the student, not the information. In internet-based teaching, both real-time and asynchronous teaching-learning processes can be carried out by eliminating the constraints such as space, time, being dependent on a single source and enabling the pure teacher for the teacher and learner.
